It is the second installment in the Pocoyo video game series. The Wii version of the game usually came bundled with a Wii Wheel, like Mario Kart Wii. An inflatable car, or a small Pocoyo toy car. The DS version would also come bundled with the former, or a copy of Hello, Pocoyo!. Unlike many other racing games, Pocoyo Racing has a Story Mode, (which is called “Motor Olympics”), similar to Crash Team Racing. But also shares many similarities between Mario Kart Wii and DS. In the Story Mode, the player can create up to 3 profiles/save states and choose between 12 different profile icons for them. The player then must play through 10 levels, which each have 3 different modes: Championship, where you must race against 11 other racers and afterwards earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal if placing at least in the top 3 Time Trials, where you must race on a track alone, trying to get the fastest time possible, then afterwards, race against your ghost to beat your previous time and earn a medal Last, is a Balloon Bursting mode, which is a challenge where the player has to collect as many balloons as possible in order to earn either a gold, silver, or bronze medal, depending on how many balloons they’ve collected. Once done, the level is fully completed, and you will unlock a picture, level up, and unlock the next level. Leveling up will unlock cutscenes that tell a story.

The cutscenes can be watched in the Theatre of the game, which allows you to either watch each cutscene individually or playing them all at once by pressing the A button. However, the game allows you to play through all 3 of the modes in whichever order you want, and in later levels, there are multiple of these three modes. Like Mario Kart Wii, in the Grand Prix, you race against 11 other racers to go through 4 races.
